Why Choose Us?

Our Mission and Philosophy

“The needs of the patient come first.”

This simple statement is the primary core value at Mayo Clinic, which has left an indelible mark on Dr. Hernandez’s treatment philosophy from his time there.

This same approach is taken at Scottsdale Esthetic & Implant Dentistry, where the needs of our patients come first and foremost. Period. End of story.

With our friendly staff and doctors, our office environment is one that allows patients to freely express their questions and concerns. There are no judgments and no second-guessing about past behaviors or treatments.

We want our patients to feel like they are coming in for more than just a trip to the dentist. It is our goal to provide the best treatment to each and every one of our patients and approach their care as if they were a member of our family.

What is a Prosthodontist?

A Prosthodontist is much more than just a general dentist. Prosthodontics is one of the nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. Note that “general dentistry,” “family dentistry,” and “cosmetic dentistry” are not considered dental specialties.

Prosthodontists are called upon any time there is a need to replace or enhance the structures inside the mouth. This can include treatment of a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all teeth and associated gum tissues.

Prosthodontists have completed an accredited three-year advanced training program after dental school. During this time, Prosthodontists are extensively trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, TMJ disorders, and more.

With this level of advanced training, a Prosthodontist is the only dentist who can guarantee that they are a true “cosmetic” dentist.

Why see a Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontists are considered the masters of treatment planning; they are the specialists diagnosing the conditions and devising the treatment plan. Prosthodontists are the leaders of the multidisciplinary approach, working in conjunction with other dental specialists and general dentists.

The advantage in choosing a Prosthodontist for your needs is that the Prosthodontist has advanced training, efficiency, and expertise with advanced technology. Prosthodontists understand, and are comfortable treating, complex dental and medical conditions.

What is Maxillofacial Prosthetics?

Maxillofacial Prosthetics is a subspecialty of Prosthodontics, requiring one additional year of training beyond the standard three-year advanced training program.

Maxillofacial Prosthodontists are skilled in the rehabilitation of patients with defects or disabilities that were present when born (congenital) or developed due to disease or trauma (acquired).

Maxillofacial Prosthodontists are accustomed to working in conjunction with ENTs, oral surgeons and other dental specialists, plastic surgeons, neurologists, radiation oncologists, speech pathologists, anaplastologists and other medical personnel.

What is the importance of Board Certification?

A Board Certified Prosthodontist is an individual who has demonstrated exceptional knowledge and skills in Prosthodontics. It is the highest possible achievement within the specialty of Prosthodontics.

The American Board of Prosthodontics will only certify Prosthodontists who are committed to lifelong learning and a lifetime of ethical practices, who value the doctor/patient relationship, who respect those with philosophical, cultural or physical differences, and who are committed to the continued advancement of Prosthodontics.
